“Do you smell that? The air is cleaner up here!” his grandfather would exclaim as he rolled down the window and crossed the 45th parallel to officially enter “up north.” Coming to northern Michigan has been a family tradition for Landon his entire life. Generations of family memories have been made hiking through the woods, skiing down the hills, and boating on the lakes and rivers in the area. As a child, Landon enjoyed nothing more than fishing with his grandfather on the lakes of northern Michigan. He knew then what he puts into words now: “There is something special about this place. It’s in the old growth trees. It’s in the natural springs. It’s in the rock bottom rivers. All is right with the world when you are up north.”
Thankfully, Landon’s wife, Holly, agrees. A naturalist in her own right, Holly loves to bring their children to the woods to get dirty, unplug, and enjoy childhood as it is meant to be. Enjoying summer weekends up north has been a tradition in the Dunn household since their boys, Oliver and Elliot, were babies. Watching their children splash in the river is one of the greatest joys the Dunns share. Knowing all the fish have been scared away by the noise is worth it to watch the boys enjoy screen-free living at its finest.
As luck (or divine intervention!) would have it, Holly and Landon stumbled upon Gold Fox Lodge in 2025. They immediately knew the quaint lodge with its original timbers and idyllic setting was something more than just a nice place to visit. It was not only where they were meant to be, but also where they were meant to host others. Sharing this sacred place with all of you is exactly what the Dunn family loves.
We welcome you to Gold Fox Lodge and hope you enjoy this cherished place as much as we do.
